Orkney

Orkney

Orkney is a group of islands lying off the far north east of Scotland and they some of the islands can be seen clearly from the Caithness coast near Thurso and John O'Groats. The Orkney Islands are beautiful and the islands are visited by many people from all over the world each year to see the wildlife, outstanding scenery and hstorical buildings; brochs, standing stones, stone circles and prehistoric farms that are well preserved in many locations throughout the islands.

The main island has the main town of Kirkwall. The ferries to the island come from Scrabster and Gills Bay in Caithness, and from Aberdeen. There is a passenger ferry operating during the summer months from John O' Groats.

Sutherland

Sutherland is a large county in the north of Scotland that spans from the east coast to the west and far north coast of Scotland. It covers a very diverse area from towns that make whisky to remote fishing and crofting communities on the north of Scotland. Sutherland has some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain with mountains that reach to the sky, thousands of lochs, sea lochs with otters and dolphins and outstanding sandy beaches in the quietest of locations. For anyone who loves wonderful scenery, wildlife including deer, pine martin and many species of birds including the golden eagle and sea eagles, who wants to get away from it all for a bit of fishing, surfing or just lazing about, then Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands is the place to visit.
